Would you like to see my studio? (Dawson to Jen in DC's Pilot episode)

Some people just don't notice this kind of things. They watch TV and take for granted that a place should look nice and clean. Probably these people have never had a messy room, or never had to share their room with some brother or sister. They never tried playing football inside the house on a rainy day or never begged for a bigger bed.
I'm not one of those. When I watch TV or go to the movies, I always feel deep pleasure when I see well furnished houses, or how big is somebody's room. Usually these things make me envy those people in the movie: I remember watching "The Goonies" and simply loving the Walshes' house, or the McAllisters's house from "Home Alone". I have lived in a flat and I've always dreamed such a big house with so much space. I would have just loved to LIVE there!
Okay, now I'm not like that anymore. I'm a little older, I don't spend my time daydreaming... but something happens to me when Dawson's Room comes to my sight. I noticed it after I had watched a few episodes of DC. Firstly I began saying to myself "woah, that Dawson Leery's got quite a room!", but soon I started watching every single corner of that place.
I also love movies, and I'm trying hard to make my room look like a huge poster. Every wall of my bedroom is always been covered with posters from all the movies I love, like Star Wars or Strange Days or The Professional (aka "Leon". It's a Luc Besson film - you should see it if you haven't yet!). I also have musical posters, since I love The Phantom of the Opera and Cats, and I love X-Files as well. Therefore, seeing Dawson's huge collection of movie posters I felt the urge to imitate him and started collecting posters again. I tried to hang posters on my closet's doors as well, but my parents didn't allow me to, so I have a lot of unused posters, still wrapped, waiting to find their place someday.
Watching DC again, my eyes were caught by what was in the room beside those posters. I noticed the huge and apparently soft bed, with that lovely patchwork blankets. Dawson's bed is big enough for two, as we can see since the first episode, and is always covered with a lot of pillows and a kind of pajamas-case (you can notice it because it looks like a huge envelope). One other thing I noticed, which is actually not related with Dawson's room, is that both Dawson and Joey seem not to wear any pajamas when they sleep there! Dawson is maybe wearing it sometimes, but I've never seen Joey changing her clothes before going to bed with Dawson. She just takes off her shoes and gets into the bed. How come?
Dawson's room has a lot of other things. I remember all those head dummies he uses for his movies, which are displayed on several shelves. He has a huge closet (in which Joey loves to hide when she feels lost), and on his closet there's a wonderful street sign: "DAWSON STREET". This is one of the things I would love to have in my own room, by the way... There's a TV, but that's pretty common in a bedroom, and a VCR as well. I wonder where he keeps all of his cassettes.
Behind the bedhead there are several books. It's hard to notice their titles, but if you look close enough you might notice they're all about filmmaking. Oh, and on the door there's a dart game (seen in "Uncharted Waters") in which Pacey seems to be doing pretty good.
One more thing: Dawson's puppets! I absolutely love that stuffed shark and E.T. he keeps on his bed, even if it's very unlikely that a boy would keep such things in his room (ok, I do but, well, I'm a girl...). And there also is a mask from the movie "Scream" (you can see it in the background near the window sometimes)... this isn't a coincidence, I'm pretty sure.

posters on the wall, which is the cutest of you all?

Dawson: I have [Steven Spielberg's] career chronicled up on my wall. If you notice, everything is arranged in receding box office order. Starting with the blockbusters: Jurassic Park, ET, Jaws, Indiana Jones and if you follow it to my critically acclaimed wall...
(He walks over to his closet doors)
Dawson: I have Schindler's List and The Color Purple. Oh, and for humility purposes I also keep his others.(Dawson opens his closet doors to reveal two posters hung on them )
Dawson: 1941 and Always. In limited but excessible view.
Jen: Are you familiar with obsessive reality disorder?

He has a passion: Steven Spielberg. He's his only hero or, as he says, he "pretty worship the man in a God-like way". He also has his framed picture beside his bed, as if he were his father. Also, Dawson hangs in his room all the posters from Spielberg's movies, as he shows to Jen in the first episode of the show. These posters don't stay where they are, though. Thru season 1 and 2, Dawson's posters change position on the room's walls, and sometimes disappear to be replaced by others. After a few episodes you will notice some poster which are not from Spielberg movies, but still good movies. Some of these are Kevin Williamson's famous movies (i.e. "Scream")
Well, here's a list of all the movie posters I can remember on Dawson's room's walls:

  1. Jurassic Park
  2. Amistad
  3. The Lost World
  4. Jaws
  5. E.T.
  6. Raiders of the Lost Ark
  7. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
  8. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
  9. Always
  10. The Color Purple
  11. Schindler's List
  12. Saving Private Ryan
  13. Misery
  14. Scream
  15. I Know What You Did Last Summer
  16. 1941
  17. Close Encounters of the Third Kind (2 different versions)
  18. Hook
  19. Needful Things
  20. Men In Black

There may be more of them, and I'm kind of sure there are, so I'll add them sooner or later if I notice them in some episodes. If you see a movie underlined, it means there's a link leading to its Internet Movie Database Page. If you've never tried the IMDB, then you should now, because it's the most valuable resource on films and TV series on the web. You can find any movie you've ever seen or heard of, you can add your opinion and vote for it!
One thing I remember about Dawson's posters is the episode "His Leading Lady", where we can see him taking some posters off the wall and moving them to another wall. He's doing this because his room's going to be filmed on his movie. I watched that scene and wondered: "How can he take off poster so easily? If I tried with mine, I would probably rip them out!"

Images taken from the episodes will show you how important Dawson's Room has been in the development of the relationships between the characters of DC. There are quotes near each picture to help you get into the mood of the episode. Which one do you love best?

Can't poor Dawson EVER get a little privacy?

He's sitting on his bed, watching a movie. No-one else around. Finally a night on his own. And then... thump, thump "Hi, Dawson." Somebody gets in from the window. It usually is Joey, but sometimes we find it's Jen, or maybe even Pacey. So, no more time for himself.
Thanks to the ladder. Dawson's put a ladder on the front porch, so that if someone wants to reach him in a fast way, he can easily climb up to his room, where there's an open window. At first glance, this seems a very cool thing. No door to knock at, no mother or father to bother, you can get directly to Dawson. But, hey, think about a lot of things:
What is the guy doesn't want to be bothered? Ok, he closes the windows and draws the curtain. Then what? You climb up to his room and knock at the window??
And what about thieves? In some episodes, Dawson gets to his room and find someone else's already there (Joey in the closet, Abby at the window, Jen crying on his bed). They all got in from the window... and so I wonder: why hasn't the Leery household been robbed at least twice a month in the last ten years?

Dawson has a Sony TV.
A gumball machine in his room with jelly beans in it.
Coffee-mug magnets on his TV. I wonder how he got them to stick...
A shelf full of baby doll heads, hands, arms, and legs.
A cricket on top of his TV.
An ET stuffed animal.
A jump rope with wooden handles hanging on the handle of his closet.
A Scream poster in his room. (Kevin Williamson strikes again!)
A Jaws stuffed animal.
A green and white street sign that says "DAWSON ST"
A laptop AND a PC (lucky guy).
The "Halloween" mask he scares Joey with in "The Scare".
A framed Joey picture.
A framed Steven Spielberg picture (in no way connected with Joey's I hope...).
Lots of dummy heads (this reminds me of "Madame Tussaud's").
A collage of pics and images over the head of his bed, and among these there's a very big black and white "?"
A dart game hung on the door.

Write me for any reason.

Dawson's Creek, its characters and places don't belong to me. I'm using them just as a fan, since they were created
by Kevin Williamson and belong to WB. But these are MY opinions and they may not agree with those
involved with the show, so don't take for granted what I've said, right?
