Some people just don't notice this kind of things. They watch TV and take for granted that a place should look nice and clean. Probably these people have never had a messy room, or never had to share their room with some brother or sister.
They never tried playing football inside the house on a rainy day or never begged for a bigger bed.
I'm not one of those. When I watch TV or go to the movies, I always feel deep pleasure when I see well furnished houses, or how big is somebody's room. Usually these things make me envy those people in the movie: I remember watching "The Goonies" and simply loving the Walshes' house, or the McAllisters's house from "Home Alone". I have lived in a flat and I've always dreamed such a big house with so much space. I would have just loved to LIVE there!
Okay, now I'm not like that anymore. I'm a little older, I don't spend my time daydreaming... but something happens to me when Dawson's Room comes to my sight. I noticed it after I had watched a few episodes of DC. Firstly I began saying to myself "woah, that Dawson Leery's got quite a room!", but soon I started watching every single corner of that place.
I also love movies, and I'm trying hard to make my room look like a huge poster. Every wall of my bedroom is always been covered with posters from all the movies I love, like Star Wars or Strange Days or The Professional (aka "Leon". It's a Luc Besson film - you should see it if you haven't yet!). I also have musical posters, since I love The Phantom of the Opera and Cats, and I love X-Files as well. Therefore, seeing Dawson's huge collection of movie posters I felt the urge to imitate him and started collecting posters again. I tried to hang posters on my closet's doors as well, but my parents didn't allow me to, so I have a lot of unused posters, still wrapped, waiting to find their place someday.
Watching DC again, my eyes were caught by what was in the room beside those posters.
I noticed the huge and apparently soft bed, with that lovely patchwork blankets. Dawson's bed is big enough for two, as we can see since the first episode, and is always covered with a lot of pillows and a kind of pajamas-case (you can notice it because it looks like a huge envelope). One other thing I noticed, which is actually not related with Dawson's room, is that both Dawson and Joey seem not to wear any pajamas when they sleep there! Dawson is maybe wearing it sometimes, but I've never seen Joey changing her clothes before going to bed with Dawson. She just takes off her shoes and gets into the bed. How come?
Dawson's room has a lot of other things. I remember all those head dummies he uses for his movies, which are displayed on several shelves. He has a huge closet (in which Joey loves to hide when she feels lost), and on his closet there's a wonderful street sign: "DAWSON STREET". This is one of the things I would love to have in my own room, by the way... There's a TV, but that's pretty common in a bedroom, and a VCR as well. I wonder where he keeps all of his cassettes.
Behind the bedhead there are several books. It's hard to notice their titles, but if you look close enough you might notice they're all about filmmaking. Oh, and on the door there's a dart game (seen in "Uncharted Waters") in which Pacey seems to be doing pretty good.
One more thing: Dawson's puppets! I absolutely love that stuffed shark and E.T. he keeps on his bed, even if it's very unlikely that a boy would keep such things in his room (ok, I do but, well, I'm a girl...). And there also is a mask from the movie "Scream" (you can see it in the background near the window sometimes)... this isn't a coincidence, I'm pretty sure.
| Dawson: I have [Steven Spielberg's] career chronicled up on my wall. If you notice, everything is arranged in receding box office order. Starting with the blockbusters: Jurassic Park, ET, Jaws, Indiana Jones and if you follow it to my critically acclaimed wall... (He walks over to his closet doors) Dawson: I have Schindler's List and The Color Purple. Oh, and for humility purposes I also keep his others.(Dawson opens his closet doors to reveal two posters hung on them ) Dawson: 1941 and Always. In limited but excessible view. Jen: Are you familiar with obsessive reality disorder? |

He's sitting on his bed, watching a movie. No-one else around. Finally a night on his own. And then... thump, thump "Hi, Dawson." Somebody gets in from the window. It usually is Joey, but sometimes we find it's Jen, or maybe even Pacey. So, no more time for himself.
Dawson has a Sony TV.
